Partial Solar Eclipse, Monday 22 Sept 2025, 5:24 am

Tomorrow morning (Monday 22 September 2025) we have the second of the current eclipses this month: the Partial Solar Eclipse, New Moon in Virgo.

This eclipse will be especially intense, as the New Moon is at 29 degrees, the degree where energy culminates with its greatest potency. Throw in a partial solar eclipse (the Moon shading the Sun as it rises), and tight aspects to retrograding outer planets - including an opposition to Neptune/Saturn and a grand trine with Pluto and Uranus - and BAM!! In my experience the energy of an eclipse is experienced in the month leading up to, or on the day or week of the actual eclipse.

But what does this mean? Let’s take a closer look and break it down.

Eclipses are intensified Sun/Moon cycles and are renowned for sudden changes of direction, or circumstances arising out of the blue, throwing us off kilter. With both the Moon in darkness and the Sun in shadow, there is a loss of light, requiring us to rely heavily on our intuition. When we’re in the dark, we can feel as though critical information is being withheld, or that we simply can’t see it, even though it might be plainly obvious at other times. Our energy is likely to be low, with rest and reflection being crucial for our wellbeing.

Trusting intuition doesn’t come easily to Virgo. Virgo is an Earth sign, with a strong need for practicality and realism. Virgo values analysis, precision, meticulous research, systems, processes, and strategies, and doesn’t appreciate being rushed into decision-making when eclipses upend circumstances, requiring cat-like reflexes to land on one’s feet.

Virgo eclipse themes might include sudden upsets to our work life or daily routines, or rapid changes to our health, or the health of those close to us, requiring compassion and sacrifice. Life may suddenly seem disorderly, presenting the need to pivot, adapt, and transform.

This eclipse may also bring a sudden spotlight onto the physical body, demanding refinement, cleansing, and renewal. Virgo rules health, digestion, and the small, daily choices that either sustain or erode our wellbeing. We may feel an urgent need to let go of bad habits; poor diet, overwork, lack of movement; or, in some cases, be forced to address these issues through a decline in energy or the body’s natural process of wear and tear.

Whether the push comes from inner dialogue or external circumstances, the message is the same: honour the body as the sacred vessel of spirit, and treat its signals as guides toward balance, vitality, and long-term resilience.

The Sun and Moon in Virgo directly oppose retrograding Neptune in Aries and Saturn in Pisces - a potent planetary combination which has been influencing our lives for the past six months and will continue to have a major impact, culminating in February 2026. This is a tough aspect, one which can seriously undermine our self-confidence and security if not addressed consciously. The key phrase for Neptune-Saturn is ORGANIC DECOMPOSITION: the breaking down of organic structures to create the compost that fuels new growth. Under the normal influence of Neptune-Saturn, we can attain mastery and success through slow and painstaking effort. However, we have the highly unusual situation where the immense and powerful influences of Uranus and Pluto are also in play, and neither is in the mood for slow and painstaking. There is a sudden urgency for revolution, progression, and adjustment - sudden advancement, regeneration, and the conscious, powerful striving for rebirth!

What do we do with all this energy, when we are suddenly faced with the knowledge that everything has changed and there is no going back?

Self-doubt, overthinking, clinging to the need for meticulous planning, imposter syndrome, and habitual behaviours, all versus leaping into the unknown and future growth.

Let us look to Mercury, because it plays an incredibly important role in this eclipse. Not only is it the traditional ruler of Virgo, but it also conjuncts the New Moon, is positively placed by dignity, and is in mutual reception with benefic Venus. Mutual reception occurs when two planets are in the sign of the other’s rulership, and therefore work to assist each other for mutual benefit. In this case, Venus (ruler of Libra) is in Virgo, and Mercury (ruler of Virgo) is in Libra.

Mercury stimulates thought and facilitates dialogue, and also acts as the “bridge” or “connection” between one place and another. Mercury is logical thought and contractual communication, moving through the sign of Libra where equality, compromise, and win-win situations are preferred. Venus helps us magnetise and attract things which make us feel good, whether that be more money, love and relationships, or beauty, harmony, and art. With Mercury and Venus assisting each other, we have an excellent opportunity for communications, contracts, partnerships, and negotiations to be mutually beneficial. Focus on the positive qualities of Virgo; synthesis, dependability, helpfulness, humility, service, efficiency; to help reach agreements where all parties win.

Relationships that are stressed and suffering due to nit-picking, nagging, over-reliance, or over-compromise may suddenly trigger an over-reaction, so be careful that things are not said which cannot be “unsaid.” It may be that some time apart, or solitude, is all that’s needed to regroup and regain emotional connection.

This Partial Solar Eclipse in Virgo marks a powerful turning point, urging us to release outdated patterns and trust in the composting process of life, where endings give rise to new growth.

Though the energies may be unsettling, they also hold immense potential for clarity, transformation, and renewal. By embracing Virgo’s higher qualities of service, humility, and discernment, while allowing Mercury and Venus to guide us toward harmonious connections, we can navigate these shifts with grace and ease. Rest, reflection, and conscious communication will be essential, helping us move through uncertainty into a future that is more aligned, purposeful, and alive with new possibilities.

Love and Light, Cosmic Carol

I love this! With Scorpio Sun and Moon in Virgo, you are a deeply caring and sensitive soul who is practical, yet highly intuitive. This is one of the best combinations for caring for others, but we can only care for others when we care for ourselves first, and the inner work is a perfect way to self care.
